FAQ

  1. What will happen if I come by myself?  Who will I share with?

If you come on your own we will match you up in a room with others of the same sex, either traveling on their own or with one or two friends.  In the past those who have come by themselves have made masses of great new friends and had a brilliant time.

  1. How much free time & flexibility do I have to do my own thing once I get there?

All trips include free time, which is completely up to you to decide how it will be spent.  Sleeping, shopping, swimming, sunning or any one of a number of optional extra activities.

  1. What is included in the tour price?

All travel and accommodation expenses, most meals, many activities and travel insurance. See the destination pages for complete details.

  1. What happens if I get sick while overseas?

We have a local contingency plan for each trip in the event of illness or injury.  Simple first aid will be available from one of your tour leaders.  Serious conditions will be referred to local medical practitioners and the insurance company will provide assistance as required.

  1. How much extra spending money will I need to take?

This differs significantly between the destinations.  For Fiji, where all meals are included once you land, you could get away with as little as A$150 to cover some souvenirs and extra drinks.  In Malaysia, the cost of the few extra meals is very reasonable as is the shopping.  We suggest around $200 for extra meals, perhaps an additional activity or two and some shopping.  In New Zealand, although most meals & activities are included the extra meals & optional activities are similarly priced to what they would be in Australia.  For example, if you opt to bungy, you need to allow an extra $90.  We recommend you bring an additional $300 to cover extra meals, one optional activity and some shopping.  Finally, in Europe, you will need to allow between $500-$600 for lunches and a couple of dinners, plus 3-4 optional activities and of course, shopping!

  1. What is the best way to take spending money with me?

We recommend a small amount of local currency in cash to start with – A$50-$100 worth (see destination pages for appropriate currencies).  More details will be sent to you once you have registered, as to how to take the remainder of your spending money.

  1. Who are the leaders?

Fun, young (mostly) and ready to party!  They are qualified youth leaders who give their time to ensure that school leavers have a huge (& safe) week (or 2) away.  They are also all Christians and will be keen to encourage you as you step out into the next exciting phase of your life.

  1. Why no alcohol?

To try and ensure that Chill Out trips are not spoilt by bad behavior and that everyone has a fantastic experience, every waking moment.

  1. What will happen if I am caught either in possession of, or drinking alcohol?

The trip leader reserves the right to escort any student caught in possession of, or drinking alcohol, to the nearest international airport and put them on the first available flight back to Australia, to return unaccompanied.  Any additional expenses incurred would need to be covered by the student or their parents.

  1. What if my parents or older siblings want to come with me?

They can’t!   An exclusive package to Walu Beach Resort in Fiji will be offered to participants, their friends and family after the event!  These trips are exclusively for school leavers to celebrate with their peers.

  1. Can I extend my stay at the destination?

Yes – subject to parental/guardian consent, you can remain at the destination after the group returns home.  Additional costs will apply.

  1. Is it possible to have a room to myself?

Yes – in most cases it is, however it isn’t something we recommend.  We don’t want you to miss out on all the fun of sharing with friends new & old!

  1. What will I need to take with me?

You will receive a detailed check-list with the final documentation, specific to your chosen destination.

  1. What will the weather be like?

Warm to hot (20-30 degrees max), except for Europe (5-18 degrees max), which will be coming into winter.  More details provided after you register.

  1. Is it safe to drink the water?

We advise that you don’t drink water from the taps anywhere except in New Zealand.  You will be able to purchase bottled water cheaply & regularly wherever you go.

  1. Will my valuables be safe?

We suggest that you don’t bring anything of value apart from your passport, camera, credit card, cash and travel documents.  It will be possible to leave these items at reception for safe keeping, if you would like to.  All care and no responsibility taken.  Each tour group will be given instructions about how to maximize their personal safety while traveling (e.g. Watching your bags at all times, wearing a money belt/pouch under your clothes).

  1. What will the food be like?

Different!  In Fiji, NZ & Europe you will always have familiar (western) options, however this isn’t always possible in Malaysia.  Go on, eat it – I dare you!!
